Gnome-Body Gets Left Behind!
Join Yardley’s efforts to keep Lafayette clean and vibrant by revitalizing gateways, improving streetscapes, implementing public art in public spaces, and educating the community about sustainability! Gnome Nation is a web-based gamification app that brings volunteers and partners together to coordinate events and member generated activities. Members who create an account can track published projects and view points they earned from participating in Project Front Yard events on the leaderboard. Interested in joining the Gnome Nation team? Little Gnome Fact Did you know that there are natural alternatives to plastic wrap for food storage? If you aim to be environmentally friendly and reduce single-use plastics, try using Bee’s Wraps! Bee’s Wraps are made of GOTS-certified organic cotton, sustainably sourced beeswax, organic coconut oil, and tree resin. To learn more about this product, visit the Bee’s Wraps website. |
Camp ECOSTEAM
First and second week of Project Front Yard’s Camp ECOSTEAM was successful. During week one, campers had a great time learning about composting from our Lafayette Consolidated Government recycling folks and made their own worm restaurants! The campers learned about and discussed what is compost, how worms help the composting process and how to create a worm habitat. Thanks to our partner, Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA), for teaching the kids how to be Wetland Warriors. By playing wetland jeopardy, they learned more about our Louisiana coastal wetlands and explored Girard Park to identify various tree species that help contribute to our environment. For more information on our partners, visit the CWPPRA and Lafayette Consolidated Government website.

Partner(s) of the Month
Embrace A Space is a commitment by an organization or business to join forces with Gnome Nation. They can act as advocates, beautifying a public space with quarterly litter cleanup events of a designated space. Project Front Yard gives a special thanks to First United Methodist Church, Home Bank, and the 705 for completing their second quarter clean up for the year. Our community received some home grown love and you all were the humans to make it happen. To learn about how your business or organization can Embrace A Space, contact projectfrontyard@lafayettela.gov for more information. |
